Rot & Rapture: Decomposing Binaries

Installation | Wild and Cultivated Fungi, Poetry

GENDER BENDER, Bangalore | November 2024

This sensory installation creates intimate dialogues with living fungal cultures, ferments, and decaying matter, challenging our instinctive aversion to rot while revealing the generative potential of decomposition. These encounters blur the boundaries between observer and observed, as mushrooms, yeasts, and molds become active interlocutors rather than passive objects of scrutiny.

The work draws parallels between society's rejection of decay and its dismissal of bodies that transgress binary categories, proposing that what we perceive as dissolution may actually be a portal to more fluid ways of being.
